UCL Hiking Club

Breathe easy and escape the city

We are a student-lead society open to all UCL students, affiliates, and alumni.  We organise and lead weekly weekend walks outside London during term time, in addition to amazing short breaks in the UK and Europe during holidays, on top of a diverse social calendar.

Walks & Hikes

Day walks and hikes are our most frequent activity. We all know how London is so fast-paced, so take some time out to explore beautiful countryside and coastline with us, which is closer than you think.

Trips

Our overnight trips take us further from London and take place during UCL Reading Weeks and holidays. They vary from sociable walking and sightseeing trips to more adventurous mountain hiking.  Our short breaks are always popular so remember to reserve your ticket early.

Places we have been to so far: Lake & Peak District, Ireland, Romania, Poland... and more to come!

Social Events

Walking is a very sociable activity and joining our club is a great way to make new friends outside of your accommodation and course and become part of our close group.  Throughout the year we'll be organising fun nights out, pub meals, games nights, and more.  So there is more to membership than just walking!

Membership

Our annual membership fee is only £15!

Our membership is available to all UCL students and affiliates, UCL alumni, and affiliate members of Students' Union UCL.  It includes a full programme of walks, hikes, and social events across all three terms, additional walks during UCL holidays, subsidised short breaks in the UK and Europe and additional training opportunities.  All our walks and hikes are led by experienced student leaders with at least one first aider, while UCL students are additionally insured by UCL to take part in our activities.

Before buying membership, please come and join our Try It Fortnight events during the first two weeks of Term 1, including a Meet & Greet and walks in the Seven Sisters, Epping Forest, the Chilterns and Richmond Park.

Club membership can be purchased via the Student's Union website. A membership is required after the 20th October to join our activities. You can either buy membership online using your UCL log in details and a credit/debit card or from the Students' Union UCL Activities Reception in the UCL Bloomsbury Theatre on Gordon Street.
