As we lead up to the start of another year for UCL Hiking Club, let’s take a look at what the committee has been doing to prepare.
At the beginning of the summer, UCL Union announced they were undergoing a rebranding process over the summer, and that they would now be known as Student’s Union UCL (SU UCL). You might have already spotted their new logos and colour scheme on their facebook page and website. With this happening, it seemed like a good time to bring in a fresh appearance for UCL Hiking Club too!
Tassilo, our marketing officer, took a lead on designing the new branding for the club, starting with the logo. After several iterations, we settled on a shield design with mountains, a trail and compass to represent the interests of our society. Tassilo has extended these themes across our social media pages, with a revamped Facebook community page for everyone to follow, and a members only Facebook group for final details of our day to day details. We have also relaunched our twitter account, and created a new Instagram to share our pursuits with you all. Do make sure you like/follow/RT us so your friends can also see the awesome places we get to visit! Once the new year starts we will also be selling T-shirts with our redesigned logo, so you can represent the best society on and off campus!
Daniel has been steaming ahead on planning the walks for autumn term. From Seven Sisters to Guildford and Winchester to Windsor, UCL Hiking has got you covered for outdoor pursuits this autumn! Keep an eye on our events page, the SU UCL What’s On calendar and our Facebook page for information about the upcoming day walks we have planned for you! We also have a residential trip in mid-November in the works, so watch this space for more details! As always, places will be limited, so you will need to act fast once we release details if you want to secure your place on this trip.
If you’re new to UCL this year, you can find out a bit more about us at the Welcome Fair on 30th September and 1st October. Sports and societies at UCL follows ‘Look, Try, Buy’ format for the first few weeks, and we are pleased to say that we’re nearly done with the planning of our Try It fortnight events. You don’t need membership to attend these events. Every year Try It fortnight walks are very popular, so we do have to limit numbers for everybody’s safety (and enjoyment). These will all be ticketed through EventBrite, which will be online in the next week or so. If you find you can’t book onto any of the events because they’re oversubscribed, do still keep in touch or join us on another of our hikes later in the year.
Returners – you already know that UCL Hiking Club is for you, so remember to buy your membership so you don’t miss out on the trips we’re planning after Try It fortnight. Outside of Try It fortnight, you will not be covered by the insurance we get through SU UCL without membership, so only those with a paid membership to the society will be able to join us.
